MONTHLY MISSION FOCUS

Pray for our missionaries…

The March 2026  “Missionaries of the Month” are Adam and Melanie Johnson with Navigators on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

Please share an update on your family.

Melanie stays busy homeschooling our sons, Gabriel (12) and Ezra (10).  Homeschooling has afforded us a lot of flexibility for special family moments and for Melanie and the boys to be involved in ministry on campus.  With spring around the corner, we are excited about how that brings people back outdoors.  The boys are especially excited for soccer with neighborhood friends and our first Boundary Waters (BWCAW) camping and canoe trip scheduled for May.

Please share an update on your ministry.  It's been a joy in this season to have a team of staff, volunteers, and students partnering together to minister among international students.  At times, we are all together hosting larger events like our 3C (Cross Cultural Connections) dinner, while more often we are scattered among various networks of relationships.  All in all, we have relationships with dozens of students, and each of us is ministering more deeply to a handful of students one-to-one and in small groups where students are asking questions and encountering the Scriptures.  Little by little, we have seen students take steps towards Christ.  Most drastically, one student from China gave his life to Christ during the fall semester and now meets regularly with one of our volunteers to grow as a disciple.

How can we be praying for you?

  1. Pray for God to draw in more students to our 3C nights.  Students' busy schedules, the current climate around immigration, and other attractive Friday night options all create barriers to students coming out to gather together with us.

  2. Pray that the Lord would cause breakthrough in the hearts of students we are ministering among.  Several have heard the gospel numerous times but seem unmoved.

  3. Pray that our team of volunteers, students and staff would not grow weary in doing good but rather be refreshed in the Lord.  It has been a particularly heavy season emotionally serving in the Twin Cities.

Do you have any special projects or needs outside of your monthly support?

  1. For the ministry: no special projects at this time.  In the future, we may be raising additional support for overseas travel to visit alumni.

  2. For family: We are seeking financial assistance from some family members and others to send our kids to a part-time private Christian homeschool academy.   Currently, we are full-time homeschooling.

Can you share any interesting facts about you, your family, or your ministry that people may not know?

Caleb Wells was one of the first students I met on campus nearly 15 years ago! I grew up on a small hobby farm in Illinois near Annawan, IL.  Melanie's dream is that we would be hobby farmers (who live close enough to the city to keep ministering to students).  We currently live in a neighborhood alongside hundreds of international student families.  There are nearly 6,000 international students and scholars at the University of Minnesota.
